Anmerkung: Ich finde es bemerkenswert, dass ein alternder Multimillionär wie Waters, der laut "Forbes" allein im Jahr 2012 satte 88 Millionen US-Dollar allein durch seine Bühnenshows (man beachte den Preis für ein einfaches Ticket!) hinzugerafft hat, sich dennoch kritisch mit solchen Themen befasst und gar einigen Firmen munter ans Bein pinkelt. Grotesk wird das ganze aber, wenn ausgerechnet ein so reicher Mensch gleichzeitig beklagt, dass womöglich "our standard of living" ein gewichtiger Grund für das furchtbare Elend auf diesem Planeten sei.

Ich will dem Mann gewiss nicht die ehrbaren, hochmoralischen Motive absprechen - Waters hat bis heute in vielerlei Hinsicht ein durchaus prägendes, auch sozialkritisches musikalisches Werk hinterlassen, das in der Geschichte der Rockmusik völlig zu Recht einen gewiss nicht unbedeutenden Platz einnimmt. Dennoch komme ich nicht umhin, auch hier zu fragen: Was soll diese Anhäufung von Millionen und Abermillionen? Der Mann ist heute 71 Jahre alt - wofür kann er dieses viele Geld, das anderswo so dringend, dringend fehlt, wohl noch gebrauchen? Warum nimmt jemand, der bereits so grotesk reich ist, überhaupt noch Eintritt für seine Bühnenshows bzw. beschränkt diesen Preis nicht auf eine Summe, die seine eigenen Ausgaben deckt? Ich werde diese kapitalistische Gier nach mehr und immer mehr, sogar bis ins hohe Alter hinein, wohl niemals begreifen.
